Katherine Fisher was born in Scotland. Her family emigrated to California when she was four years old, and her parents raised her to appreciate academics and cultural sensitivity. She was accepted into the honor International Baccalaureate Program in high school and she was later accepted at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Ms. Fisher received a Masters Degree with honors in 2000 after writing her thesis on the efforts of the international community to combat the practice of female genital mutilation.
After graduating, Ms. Fisher traveled throughout Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia. She connected with Dr. Soheir Stolba and the SHARE Institute in March of 2004. She traveled to Yemen with Dr. Stolba in April to attend a conference on female genital mutilation. Since then, she has raised funds for a children's home in Yemen and continues to participate in SHARE events. Ms. Fisher works at Linking Education and Economic Development (LEED) Sacramento, a non-profit organization in Rancho Cordova, as the Communications and Marketing Manager. Ms. Fisher joined SHARE in the fall of 2003. |
